Tribulus Terrestris is native to sub-Himalayan forests of India, Burma, and several other countries. A short crooked tree with persistent fruit in the cold season, it is common in all forests, frequently found in villages. With a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Indian Ayurvedic practice, it was widely used in sexual disorders in both men and women and as a remedy for erectile dysfunction in men. The Chinese have used Tribulus for over 400 years. Many different cultures have used it for a number of purposes. For example, the Greeks used Tribulus terrestris as a diuretic and a mood enhancer. It originated from Southern Europe, Southern Asia, Africa, and Northern Australia and is also known as Gokshura, Gokhru, Puncture Vine, Caltrop, Yellow Vine, Tribuvar Gold and Goathead.
Tribuvar, popularly known as Gokshura is useful in reducing renal discomfort and can be used for various problems such as urolithiasis, dysuria, impotence and kidney and promotes the flow of urine and cools and soothes the membranes of the urinary tract. Gokshura has also been described as an aphrodisiac herb in Ayurveda. Gokshura is used to support the normal function of the male reproductive system. Bodybuilders and athletes frequently add the herb to their health regimen as a supplement supporting normal levels of testosterone production in the body as it helps to provide energy for athletes during traning session.
